Call For Theaters!

Juan Carlos

Alright it's almost here. The day we've all been waiting for... The release of Second Skin is on August 25th! And we want to have event screenings at theaters near you leading up to it. August is our month to jam this film into as many places as we possibly can. Your help in finding a dark room with a hundred seats or more would be much appreciated.

This is our grassroots effort to get this movie out on the silver screen. We're not getting a traditional theatrical so we have to do it the modified way, and pound the pavement so people hear about this.

We have lots of great ideas for these screenings with more information soon. If you know of any places that could host a screening please email me here: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

It doesn't have to be a traditional theater! We can show it at conferences, conventions, universities, and colleges.  We can do lectures (if you can pay our way there). August is THE month, and we need your help. So if you have a little spare time please help us launch this movie in style.

New website design will be out in the middle of June too! The new DVD artwork, and site revamping is looking really good. Carlos, our graphic designer at Liberation, has been doing a great job.

Video Games Benefit Society In 12 Ways...

Are Video Games Good For You

PWNorDIE has a nice little list of 12 ways that video games benefit society.  Here's the first paragraph and the link to the full article:

It seems like not a week goes by without a story about a child killing someone or going on a rampage then blaming it on video games.  Then there are the stories of how video games make people fat, hinder social skills, and generally hurt society.  These types of stories do a decent job of making video games look bad.

We decided to put together twelve examples that show that video games can actually be a benefit in "real life".  A few of these are counter arguments to unfounded claims while others are examples of the gaming industry doing things to better the world, many of which widely go unnoticed.

Nintendo, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Nin-ten-do: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Nin. Ten. Do.

In my lifetime, if there were a nostalgic image that could sum up pretty much all the good feelings and bad feelings about my childhood, it would be the original Nintendo Entertainment System. NES for short. Ninnie Ninnie Tennie Tennie Doey Doey to my friend John Martin from across the cul-de-sac.

I was the kind of kid who jumped Mario (from Super Mario Bros) with my entire body in real life. It brought me the greatest joy when I made it to level 8-1. The most anger when I couldn't get past 1-4 in Kid Icarus. The most sadness when Final Fantasy 1 ended. The best sense of teamwork when we (bro and I) beat Crystalis. Yes, in those days there was nothing Nintendo did wrong except steal hours of my life away- but then again, I gave them willingly.

I bought Gameboy, then Gameboy Color. I played Alleyway and Tetris constantly.

Sega Genesis came out, and since Super Nintendo hadn't, we (my brother and I) got that. For a short time it was good. Games like Altered Beast, Sonic, Battletoads, and Streets of Rage 2 made it worthwhile. Finally Super Nintendo was released, and I could not wait to get my hands on the new system. I was die hard. I traded in one for the other, and was so pleased with the new console. Super Mario Kart was an addiction, and Final Fantasy III became my favorite game of all time. There was no stopping Nintendo.

banana phone: another glitch in the Matrix

Hi folks- it's been a minute.  In upgrading our site I lost the ability to blog until Juan showed me a secret passage.  Now everything's peachy and I'll get you up to speed quickly.

The short version: we lucked out with our distributor.  Apart from being generally awesome, L---- is really allowing us to take an active role in the process of getting our baby out into the world.  Once a week we have a conference call- Peter, Juan and I on our end, and a huge chunk of their staff on their end.

We talk marketing possibilities, we review cover art, we talk bonus features and just about everything in between.  It's fun, fascinating, and very productive to hear things from their end and add our two cents.  Most of all, it makes us feel warm and fuzzy to be so completely in the loop.  This isn't the tale most filmmakers tell.

Stay tuned- we've been concocting something really special over the past few months.  It should hit in the next month or so- look for it in June.

More importantly, look for our movie later this summer... it sounds like they've locked in a release date!

World of Warcraft: The Soft Drink

FROM Mike Fahey at Kotaku -- full post/article HERE

The diabolical gamer-targetingMountain Dew Game Fuel returns this year, dropping Halo 3 in favor of the massively multiplayer online sensationWorld of Warcraft.

Not only is Mountain Dew switching genres and publishers, they're also switching up their strategy for theWorld of Warcraft Game Fuel releases, introducing much-needed player-versus-player combat to the sugary soft drink market. Do you choose the cherry-citrus tang of Horde Red, or the smooth wild fruit taste of Alliance Blue? Does in-game allegiance carry over to the soft drink aisle, or can a player rocking a Gnome Warrior online partake of a drink with an Orc Shaman plastered across the label?

The answers to these questions and more come this summer, when the unholy alliance between Mountain Dew and Blizzard hits store shelves.

World of Warcraft = Craft Cocaine, Say Experts

World of Warcraft Addict Series 7/9

Ian Sparks from Daily Mail reports on a pretty damn intense story:

An internet computer game has been condemned as being as addictive as cocaine after a teenager who played it 24 hours non-stop had convulsions.

World of Warcraft has been hugely successful in capturing the imagination of players by drawing them into a virtual universe of battles and quests.

However, it is at the centre of a growing problem of computer game addiction.

world of warcraft

Highly addictive: World of Warcraft has been described by experts as the crack cocaine of the gaming world

Many players will sit alone in their rooms for hours at a time, immersed in the lives of their fantasy character creations - or Avatars.

Some 11milion around the globe play World of Warcraft - making it the world's most successful 'MMORPG' - massively multi-player online role-playing game.

However, a report from Sweden's Youth Care Foundation describes it as 'the most dangerous game on the market'.

The report's author Sven Rollenhagen said: 'There is not a single case of game addiction that we have worked with in which World of Warcraft has not played a part.

'It is the crack cocaine of the computer game world. Some will play it till they drop.'

Virtual Worlds Getting Sued!

Tam and Car

Did anyone realize that someone had a patent out for virtual worlds?!

I didn't.  I wonder if the head honchos at all of our favorite MMORPG companies did?

Looks like Worlds.com has the patent, and is suing the pants off NC Soft- for starters!  It's ready to go up against all the big guys, including WoW and Second Life.

Wow, copyright infringement feels so nineties...
